youngseedling
Hello! I'm currently going into second year undergrad and I did really poorly in first year (~65%) *smacks head hard* I was going through a lot of family issues, and didn't put in as much effort as I wanted to in my studies :( I know this is a far reach, but I know that U of T and UBC drops your lowest year if you have four years, does it work if I were to apply in my fourth year and have the first year dropped? I know that UWO takes best two years so hopefully I get my crap together and gun second and third year. I would like to say I have somewhat decent ECs so far that I can build up on, and I still have yet to take the DAT but I'm discouraged to apply when most of my friends say that Canadian dental schools are GPA heavy. Any advice would be much appreciated :)
arkragon
I'm sorry to hear that. Just do your best for second and third year and nail the DAT and you should be good. I'm no expert though but I think you still have a good chance. youngseedling
dentut2023
I believe UofT drops your lowest year if you apply in your fourth year. Also, you should sign up for the upcoming DAT! Even if you are discouraged, every Canadian dental school requires DAT scores so it’s best to start early and see what you need to work on for your next two years youngseedling
Chaxon
I agree with dentut2023. Prioritize your GPA from here on out but also take he Dat so you can see where you need to improve. That way you won’t waste a year or two trying to improve your Dat scores in your later years like I did lol
