Accepted

OOP

GPA: 3.98

MCAT: 29P (VR 9)

EC: Pretty standard I think...

Interview: I was so nervous the first two stations, but overall, I felt it went well.

Best of luck to all those on the waitlist! I was originally rejected for the interview, but got a call from Dr. Walker a week before interviews that a spot had opened up (best phone call of my life!). I think that shows that anything is possible, so keep hoping! I'm crossing my fingers for you!

My response is a bit late, I was out of the country when I found out. I suppose that my case will give hope to those out there who feel they have "bombed the MCAT".

GPA: 3.9

MCAT: AWEFUL. 22M, VR- 9

-took the MCAT before I had taken the second gen chem and second O-chem and it really hurt both my physical sciences and biological sciences

EC: I felt very good about my activities, and felt strong about how I represented them as evidence for the 6 qualities the committee was looking for... but then again, who knows!

Interview: Felt very good.

I didn't really expect to get in, because of my poor MCAT score, and lack of general science background. I was so very pleasantly surprised! Goes to show that your MCAT score is very little of your acceptance- VR is only 10% of pre-interview score (meaning it is a measly 5% of your overall score post-interview). The personal qualities you have--judged by activities and interview--are the bulk of your application! Of course you have to meet the minimums of GPA and MCAT to even get to the full file review, but there IS hope for those who have less than stellar MCAT and GPA.

cGPA: 3.62 (UofT Pharmacology Specialist, Astronomy/Astrophysics Specialist)

MCAT: 34T (VR9)

EC: Musician all my life, public outreach in science (at schools and public astronomy lectures), three years (combined) of laboratory research in physics and microbiology, music teaching and volunteerism with outreach, student association social director, clinical exposure, volunteerism with calgary women's emergency shelter.

Interview: Certainly felt good but didn't feel as though I had given responses that any other sane individual wouldn't have given....

Wasn't sure if I'd get in...I'm out of 3rd year and in the past they have only been accepting approx. 3 undergrads. It's going to be weird being among the youngest (if not the youngest) person in the class!

Hey guys!!

This website has provided huge amounts of insight and encouragement to me during the application process, so hopefully I can pass on some warm fuzzy feelings to others out there with a low GPA.

Accepted :)

cGPA: 3.55

MCAT: 31O (12VR)

EC's: MSc., coach, travel, worked in a clinic, shadowing opportunities, sports, etc. etc. (Just a note about the MSc.: Its not for everyone, and it doesn't really effect GPA, but I couldn't have imagined doing anything else while applying to medicine- teaching opportunities, fun research, conferences, mentoring opportunities, etc. I took a risk by not taking undergrad courses to directly boost my GPA, but it was well worth it in my opinion.)

Interview: I practiced pretty much every day from the moment I found out I had an interview. After the interview I was elated at how well it went (haha, although I am still waiting to see my MMI scores, so who knows what the interviewers thought).

Good luck to everyone!!
