US residency after residency in Canada

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know what the process would be like for someone hoping to redo residency in a different specialty in the States? Would the applicant just apply through the US match during their final year of residency and complete their USMLES?

Do people get any credit for previous training and is it very difficult for people to get a visa?

Why is that? I thought US took lots of IMGs. Wouldn't they prefer Canadians over IMGs from other places?

I think Edict meant from the perspective that doing two residencies period sounds less than ideal, regardless of whether it’s in the US or not.

Probably better to try and transfer into what you actually want in Canada and just do it once.

Unfortunately, the Canadian system is not very forgiving and in most cases doesnt allow for transfers or switch of specialties after
