TransuranicPlutonium
Hello all. I've been accepted to music at Western for trumpet performance, and am very eager to learn. Medicine is my long term goal, and my reasoning at this point is to study what I enjoy (music) in the hopes that I will attain a better GPA than if I were to major in some sort of medical science for no apparent benefit. That said, the odds are against me and I understand that, but if the battle is even slightly worth it, than life's too short to pass it up. Is there anyone who has studied music and subsequently applied to medical school? What was your experience? Is a competitive GPA even realistically possible in such a program? Should I cut my losses with medicine now and enter nursing where at least I know I'll have a marketable set of skills? Thanks
rmorelan
ha one of my classmates did music as his major. I think he had a biology minor. as for the GPA side of things - good question - have you reached out to your program in particular - usually there is a club that is related to most majors full of people that are senior can give you an idea about likely various GPA ranges possible and what you have to do to get them. It is isn't likely doing a more unusual program automatically disadvantages you - other than there you still have to prepare for the MCAT exam etc.

I'll ask around with the people I know have completed the program to get some details on the gpa stuff.
