It generally won't be a problem, unless it comes to reference letters. For instance a publication from that research would be as good as any, but if your close family member was to write you a reference, it would be seen as possibly biased. Is there a co-investigator who would be able to write you a letter when it comes time down the road?

Yes, as far as I know if i were to get involved there would be other investigators I would be working with :).
