I got sued because I can't pay the interest on my LOC, can I still do Residency?

Do I have a criminal/legal record because I couldn't pay my debts? I just matched and am filling in the provincial college questions. Help is greatly appreciated my friendly colleagues. Thank you!

You certainly don't have a criminal record if all you did was get sued and found liable. 

Just call CMPA. It's probably not a major issue. Lots of doctors get into financial difficulty and can still practice.

This is not considered a criminal offence, should not have any effect on your medical career at all. But I don't have any legal training so not 100% sure

Debtors’ prison existed in the time of Dickens, abolished long, long ago.   Forund guilty of fraud is criminal, owing money certainly is not. 
 

to pay the interest, one should borrow more money and then, use that money to pay the interest.

thank you everyone! I wasn't managing my money well (lesson learned for life) and couldn't pay back the interest anymore so I just stopped paying, they sued me and I got scared and I didn't even go to the court, hopefully this isn't contempt of the law???

I think that you need to talk to a lawyer, CMPA might not be able to answer your questions consider that you just get matched. We are not legal professionals here, I don't want you to be misled!

I think that you were probably sued by civil court, the common sense is that it's not on your criminal record, so that you don't have to declare. But double check with a legal professional
