2020 Waitlist Thread

are there any other masters/phd people who are defending in the next couple weeks here?  I'm trying to ask the admissions office if an offer off the waitlist is only possible if they have received the letter from your department confirming your degree conferment.  I'm getting vague answers from them, but i'm getting the impression that regardless of where you are on the waitlist, if you haven't submitted this confirmation letter (after thesis is submitted with no revisions), your name will just be passed until you submit it.  And if this isn't until mid june, chances are super low of getting in, regardless of being the top or the bottom of the list.

I don't know this for 100% truth, it's just my current understanding, but i'm wondering if anyone else is in the position and/or may have more information?  

EDIT: got some clarity - it can move you up the waitlist, but the offer is not conditional on them receiving the letter. so we're good.

I definitely agree. Looking at past years, more people seem to post their acceptance on the forum so it is strange. For your sake, I hope they’re sending out fewer offers over an expanded period of ti

I have no idea what to think... I just wonder how many people have actually received waitlist offers compared to how many we have seen posted? (3 total, right?) 

I wish we knew the # of declines and offers sent out so far total. It's hard to keep waiting with no certainty of anything. But hey, we're all in it together. I hope we all get the news we want to hear soon

I feel like those numbers might just be some sort of administrative way of identifying us. I remember for Mac they had a huge commotion about the 'button' lol and it turned out it didn't really mean anything. People who had it got rejected and those who didn't got in.  In addition, I spoke to a friend who mentioned that she's known people who have gotten in around mid June and some even in mid July!  So all hope is not lost. Hopefully the waitlist will move for us soon enough! :)

Congrats on the acceptance!

Just wondering, did U of A post your acceptance letter on the Secondary Medicine Portal under documents tab where your original waitlist offer was posted &  did you also get an email notification?

We have already kind of debunked the time stamp theories. multiple people's letters were made at the same time either in group 131 or 130. it appears to be conditional waitlist offers vs waitlist offers. I know someone who got off from both groups so there does not appear to be an order. if you look earlier in the forum, there is a post by acacna that summarizes what we know so far pretty well. 

 

Unless you are requesting the timestamp for their new offers of acceptance?
