ADoseofLuck
Hey guys! I am planning to apply to McGill's MDCM program in 2022. I am just starting to become familiar with the admission process so please bear with me... I've done my DEC in science two years ago, so I have completed my prereqs already. However, if I've calculated my prereqGPA correctly, I get ~3.75, which I assume is not bad but leaves some room for improvement. When I look at Option 1 for possible prerequisite courses, I see that they ask for 2 bio, 2 chem, 1 org chem and 2 physics classes with labs. My questions are: 1) Will they look at Calculus 1 and 2 when calculating my prereq GPA? (I see that they are a requirement for MedP so I would like to know if it is needed for MDCM applicants) 2) Seeing as how I've done 3 introductory physics classes in cegep (mechanics, electricity and magnetism, waves and optics), will they only look at my grades in 2 of them and drop the lowest one? 3) Do I have the possibility of only doing 1-2 courses from Option 1 to raise my grades or do I have to re-do all 7 of them? Thank you very much!

Thank you very much! 1) Calculus 1 and 2 are not required prereqs, so they will not be included in the prereq GPA. As you said yourself, these are requirements for Med-P, not MDCM. 2) When filling out your academic workbook, you choose which courses to use as prereqs, so you should choose the two you did the best in. 3) In general terms, McGill allows courses to be retaken, and will only consider the better of two grades (In this document, Section 3, under "Grade Status". Note that this document is updated every application cycle.) However, The website also states that: IF you have previously completed all courses in OPTION 1, and wish to either improve your science GPA, you may choose to use OPTION 2 and complete the 4 recommended university-level science courses. The 4 recommended courses are: Mammalian physiology (3 cr.) Organic chemistry* (3 cr.) (University level only) Molecular biology (3 cr.) Cell biology & metabolism (3 cr.) As such, I don't know how they look at retaken Option 1 grades. Personally, I think they will allow you to redo them. In any case, you would not need to do all 7 again. That seems a bit excessive. Maybe Option 2 is available for students who completed the Option 1 prereqs in CEGEP with low grades and who are unable to retake the course because they have the credit for them? I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure either. I actually did well in my cegep classes apart from 1-2 courses, so it is much more convient for me to re-do these instead of taking the 4 courses from Option 2. But thank you, your reply was very helpful!
AB2
im in a very similar pickle with a ... significantly lower prereq gpa though lol so going to redo a bunch of option 1 over the next few years on a part time basis as I start applications next cycle I also had never realized you only needed 2 physics prereqs cant believe i misread that thks for the headsup I asked/searched on this forum and previous posters have said yes we can redo option 1 courses piecemeal, but I would like to hear it from the horses mouth you get me. Have you contacted admissions for clarification? if it offers you any comfort ive seen a bunch of ppl in the accept threads make it in w lower/similar prereq gpa
