TheGreatPiper
Just curious if anyone is doing this. I shadowed both professions and fell in love with both before the virus happened. I'm conflicted with which one to choose so I'm leaning towards OMFS so I get a taste of both worlds. Anyone in a similar position or thinking about doing the same? Will this hinder my chances to getting into either one of them?
Bambi
Taking that approach is not uncommon. A few years ago, an applicant for both contacted me for advice. Her dental interview was first. I told her to relax,l she didn’t want it anyhow and to see what happened. Her interview went extremely well! I suggested she apply the same teach I que for her med school application, to treat it as if it was only a practice run. She had applied without success for a couple of years. She was finally accepted into medicine! Ap0lying to both does not reduce your chances to either.

There's a lot of content overlap between the DAT and MCAT. Extracurriculars and interviews could be very similar too. One thing though is that you have to be prepared to make a choice between the two to avoid having buyer's remorse once you've started in either program. BigHoss
do med. you'll be happier. OMFS is what's available through dentistry. ENT/Plastics/Ophthalmology/kinda Neurosurgery/Orthopedics is what is available through Med. Trust me. Message me or post on this if you have any questions! premed72
I was fortunate enough to get into both medicine and dentistry this year. I think both are great careers and I was torn between the two. I ultimately chose medicine for many reasons (too long to explain). Theres overlap between the two professions but there were some fundamental differences that led me toward medicine. If you wanna chat about it you can PM me. I also would not choose dentistry just cuz of OMFS. Its extremely difficult to become an OMFS unless you want to go to USA (and that's still very competative). If you like the work you saw at your dental clinic (assuming non OMFS related) then that's great. But I wouldnt choose a career because of a niche area you can potentially get in to. It can be risky and you might not be happy with your career if it doesnt pan out the way you imagined it.
