Waitlister
Hello fellow waitlisters, I am reapplying and this time, I am thinking of adding more details in my sketch, in the extracurricular section. I put my experience playing soccer and playing in a band but I don't really think those experiences have really enhanced my skills all that much. On the other hand, my 3 000 hours of CSGO (Counter-Strike: Global Offensive) have been a consistent battleground for honing my tactical skills and my dexterity. Honestly, if you haven't heard of it, check it out. The scientific literature doesn't prove this type of exercise is necessary to become a good surgeon, but there is evidence that it could be helpful, and from my personal experience, more than leading a kids soccer club. So, I am thinking of putting it in and mention "collaboration, strategy, dexterity" in the description. I wonder what you guys think and I'll let you know if it gets me off the waitlist this year. bearded frog
Lmao. Do not put “video game enthusiast” in your application. Especially 1000s of hours. It will absolutely not help and I bet if you think you can figure out why this might hurt you, if not be a red flag. IloveMemes
Psych
I agree with bearded frog- and also to add, people may have different opinions but at least to me, playing countless hours of a game where you shoot people (even if it's just a game) then entering a field where you need to save lives, be caring and empathetic, and even de-escalate violence isn't a great look
Monkeyes
Those 3,000 hours must have honed your tactical skills to perfection. Gaming can definitely sharpen attributes like collaboration, strategy, and dexterity, which are valuable skills in various aspects of life. While it might not be in the scientific literature, your personal experience speaks volumes. If it's something you're passionate about and has been a significant part of your journey, it's worth mentioning. By the way, I'm all about gaming too, and I've been back into Counter Strike lately, especially with the CS2 skins marketplace spicing things up.
