Yea, the college hurdles are the biggest nuisance to all of this. I would say any leave of absence is a red flag as you always have to explain it. Can be minimal if you have a good reason. Could also be a deal breaker for many programs if the reason wasn't good enough. Even when you finish all your training it's difficult to just "stop working" for lengths at time. It's hard to have a meaningful gap in training/employment during medicine because of the college usually. I feel that many colleagues also look down on people who have gaps for whatever reason.
