OOP MSc Student Chances

Recommended Posts

Hi there! I was hoping to get some feedback on my chances as an OOP applicant (Ontario BSc, Montreal MSc). Currently, my GPA for my MSc is 4.0. My cGPA for my undergraduate degree is 3.94, which I'm unsure how to translate to UBC's scoring, but my GPA for 2 of my 3 year undergraduate was 4.0/4.0 (UofT gpa scale). I took a full course load (i.e. at least 5 full year courses between September and April of any given academic year) throughout undergrad.

My MCAT is: 510 (2nd attempt: 127/127/126/130) and 506 (1st attempt: 128/126/126/126)

Any feedback would be really appreciated! :)

Sounds pretty GOAT-ed to me, but I do know the OOP pool is pretty nuts for UBC. Barring a low NAQ score, you should easily get an interview, and from there it's pretty much a 50/50 (kind of, not quite, but roughly)

Thank you so much for your response!

First time applying to UBC so idk what to expect *fingers crossed I hear back with some good news on December 14th*

Fingers crossed indeed! I do have a little M Huncho that the interview invites will not be sent out December 14th (nor indeed that entire week). All that UBC said regarding interview invites was "make sure you have internet from Dec. 14th and on", so that actually is making me think we're looking at a late December type of situation. Especially with the delays in the application opening this year. I tentatively predict that the first people to receive interview offers will be Dec. 23rd (with rejections earlier in the week)

I was thinking, given that they say we will hear back early December (on UBC Med Timeline) and will have to book interview dates mid December, invites and regrets will be sent out near/before the 14th and they recommend having secure internet on the 14th onwards to be able to book our interview slot...

could be totally off though

Could be true, except for the fact that UBC said something like "we're not telling people about interview decisions until mid Dec at least". That 'at least' is part of why I think it might be a late Dec situation. Also in previous years the booking of interview slots opens right away as soon as interview decisions are sent out (a new portal on OAS appears called "Interview")

With COVID, they can try to stick to that timeline that's been posted as closely as possible, but it will have to shift a bit. For example, the secondary application might not be due until mid March or something (rather than mid Feb) this year. And final decisions might not be until end of May rather than mid May
