TIME STAMP: ~11:15am
Result: Invite
GPA: 4.0
ECs (CV): some research (no pubs), couple of hospital volunteering positions, exec positions on a couple of clubs, was a TEAM TA for a few classes etc. My CV is pretty generic tbh lol
Year: final year of 2nd UG

Feelings about Casper: A couple years ago I ranked around 200th/819 when mcgill gave out casper rankings. However this time around as its my 3rd application cycle, I felt that it was my best one yet.

Applicant category: IP

I'm very excited for this opportunity! This is my first ever med interview and my 3rd application cycle! #thirdtimesacharm?

TIME STAMP: Around 1:27PM (GMT)
Result: Invite
GPA: 3.97

MCAT: 518 (submitted but optional since I am quebec resident)
ECs (CV): currently working at the MUHC as a researcher. 4 pubs (1 Nature second author, 3 other as 3rd author) multiple submission at the time (not yet published). Volunteered with humanitarian organization for 5 years (africa and asia mostly). also veteran.
Year: I dropped out of Mcgill  masters program in the early days of Covid (it was difficult financially. I don't know how this is going to play out in the future, I hope I am not gonna be rejected because of it)

Casper: I felt that I did way worse than last year (2020 I had no interview despite ranking 16th pre-interview the year before 2019).... talking or hearing about the Casper frustrate me a lot (as I have to perform it in my third language)

Applicant category: QC university

I honestly enjoy my job right now. and enjoy starting a family. It's the first time I am applying with no expectation at all (I don't even understand why I was stressed earlier)

ECs (CV): A few research internships with faculty scholarships and NSERC URSA (no pub, but a review in process, implication in several projects, and poster presentation done), part time work as a UG research assist', TA, volunteering for the faculty, tutoring, and exec/student association positions

Year: 3rd year UG

Feelings about Casper: Average; answered every question but I feel like I didn't elaborate enough because of time restriction

TIME STAMP: ~2:00pm
Result: INVITE (further review required)
GPA: 3.99 (second undergrad degree)
ECs (CV): lots of sports, work experience in medical clinics, was a TA, some academic awards, only volunteering was sports-related (but long-term), no research/pubs
Year: did two BSc, worked for a year, now in first year of MSc.

MCAT: 512 (optional for me)

Feelings about Casper: felt better than last year, answered almost all questions but some responses were very short due to the time limit.

Applicant category: IP (QC university)

I AM FREAKING OUT - I was refused and ranked in the 900's for IP last year. The only change was starting my masters so I guess my academic context improved? and maybe my casper was much better?

thanks for this! it's really encouraging - I mean my gpa is far from yours but I'm finishing my second BSc and was thinking of doing a masters. anyway your path is really encouraging to me and it makes me happy to see others in a similar situation that did not give up and finally getting an interview!
I think your casper is for sure a very important component and yeah I don't know about masters but anyway Congrats and thank you for sharing! it gives me hope for next year :)

TIME STAMP: 3:00 PM (I still haven't received the official email, but minerva has the date and time listed for my interview, which from my experience last year means I've been invited!)
Result: Invite for interview!
GPA: 3.95
ECs (CV): Volunteering for club at school, community volunteering, two publications in progress, NSERC USRA award, scholarships, hobbies (piano playing, etc), lots of lab and work experience
Year: First year graduate student

Feelings about Casper: Pretty confident, I feel like I have a pretty good formula for success on the CASPer at this point since I've taken it 3 times

Applicant category: I applied as RSPP, but whether you get an interview based on that stream depends if your application is competitive enough. Last year I applied via RSPP but got an interview and got waitlisted as a quebec resident (not within the RSPP category)

MCAT: It was an awful experience, got a 499, thankfully they don't consider it unless it's to your advantage :)

Good luck everyone!

Thanks :)

I'm sorry to hear that! Have you heard back from McGill yet? Honestly, I usually find **DELETED** annoying with how much they advertise to premed students, but they really pull through with the CASPer prep videos. I watched a couple and there is generally a formula (ALWAYS emphasize compassion, honesty, integrity, etc) you can try to follow in your head to help guide you through the questions under pressure. Here's the link to the video I found most helpful and rewatched each time I took the CASPer:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqX6xP8VAoo&ab_channel=BeMoAcademicConsultingInc.

I also got an interview last year, and was waitlisted (unfortunately didn't make it), but I did find that some of her advice is really helpful for the interview process as well. Although, I have no idea what interviews will be like this year :/

Hope this helps!

I did get my rejection this morning but it was a long shot I saw it coming considering my gpa which was in the low end so I had to ace the Casper. Can't wait to see where I ranked tbh and work on my application. :) Thank you so much for sharing !

T'as reçu un courriel?
