University of Montreal DMD to US specialty?

Recommended Posts

When applying to a specialty such as endo or OMS in the US (or even say, in Toronto), do the programs look at which school you got your DMD from? More specifically, would it be detrimental to come from University of Montreal, where the DMD program lasts 5 years and is exclusively in french? Or does it have no effect on an application?

Not an issue if you're fluent in English. Lots of people I know have gone from University of Montreal to the US. One downside is that if you did CEGEP some Canadian schools wont look upon that as favorably if you apply to specialty since you dont have the experience of a bachelors, but I know that it is generally a non-issue if you go to the US. Keep in mind 4 year programs are really the only ones accessible since there is a more complicated visa process if you need to go to medical school and a lot of schools dont want or have the people to help navigate that process (whereas TN visa is simple).
