omsasconfusion
Exactly how big is the swoman bias post-interview? Western presents it as only having lower cutoffs than everyone else for non-academic assessment but is there more to their advantage? the dean's list information makes it seem like there's more at play and a certain portion of the class will always be swomen ppl. PreMed#219099
I was wondering the same – is a connection to southwestern communities beneficial?
CHG
Just having a connection to the southwestern communities doesn't have any benefit. SWOMEN applicants have to produce a transcript showing that they attended high school in the SWOMEN area - a full map of counties can be found here https://www.schulich.uwo.ca/distributededucation/academies/Map of Academies.html . As for the post-interview SWOMEN advantage, nobody really knows because the post-interview scoring formula has never been shared with us. There are lots of theories that I'm not super familiar with (but I'm sure people can fill you in or you can find them on similar threads) but for now they're just ideas. The idea of the SWOMEN pathway is to train physicians who are more likely to stay and practice in these communities, so it would make sense to me that Schulich would aim to accept a certain portion of SWOMEN students, but really what do I know? lol aray623, NurseLewis, gliostudies and 2 others
