Do residents get dental care?

I've been having some issues with a tooth lately, and I was told it could cost $4000 to fix without insurance. I don't have that kind of money just laying around... Anyone know how the dental coverage works for residents?

85% covered for Ontario residents, but exclude cosmetic procedures such as implants. If your dentist prescribe medication there is a small one time deductible, but otherwise are covered.

Also before you sign up to a place ask them how billing works. I started at the the dental school affiliated clinic and it was horrible, have to submit all the paper receipts for claim myself on Manulife website and quality of work was borderline at best. Then switched to private clinic, they bill insurance on your behalf and you just pay the 15% each visit, plus speed and quality of work was much better.

We usually get basic dental coverage similar to medical school/undergrad plans.

Province dependent. More of a question of checking our benefits plan than premed101; but also ensure you shop around - dental estimates can vary greatly.
