AnnyBear
A couple of reasons that may discourage you from applying to international schools: 1. Someone I'm very close to is an international medical graduate (IMG), and it's not easy to get your license in Canada from that position. He needs a competitive QE1 & NAC OSCE scores and extensive and relevant experience in the medical field to enter post-graduate training here. Coming back from an Australian or Ireland school may put you in that situation. 2. Some European medical schools are not advance-entry (meaning people apply from high school), so you may feel less at home as students in those schools (seeing everyone else in the class is about 4 years younger than you are). US schools are of less concern for that matter. However, some of them (especially public schools) have strong preference for same-state applicants. So, it is in your interest to look into the requirements of your school of interest before you apply to reduce the stress (of having to apply to and keep track of a large number of schools you've applied to) and maximize your chance. A good place to start is on the AMCAS portal; they sell the average admission stats of a large number of US schools for ~$20 (or was it $40? I don't quite remember). You can buy that and compare the various admission stats of US schools to your own stats to narrow down to a few schools where you have a better chance. Best of luck!
