Scenario 3

While walking to your class on campus, you have just realized that you have forgotten your chemistry textbook in the library. When you go back to get it, the person who you were sitting next to has the exact same book as you in their bag. You can't see your textbook anywhere.

1. How would you approach the situation?

2. Let's say that the person does admit to stealing your textbook, and their reasoning is that they couldn't afford to buy one on their own. Would you let them borrow it?

3. Why do individuals resort to stealing?

1) In this situation,I will try as much as possible to remain objective and non-judgmental. I would gather more information by asking the person sitting next to me if they saw my chemistry book or if they saw someone borrow this book from my desk. If they did not see anyone taking the book, I will proceed to ask around and ask for help finding this book. However, if they saw someone take this book, I will reach to to that person in a non-confrontational manner to verify if the book in their possession is theirs or mine. If the book belongs to me, then will request that the book be returned to me.

2) In this scenario, I will empathize with their situation of not being able to afford their own copy of the book, I will encourage them to always ask or try to borrow from someone who is not currently using theirs. I will let them know because they can not afford the book is not a reason for them to steal the  book as it is unfair to mean I have  been deprived from using my chemistry book. However, I will remain empathetic and try to work with this person by drawing up a schedule so we can all use this book. On the days I am not using my book, I will share with him or her so they can get their work done. If this scheduling doesn't work, I will encourage this person to try signing out this book from the school's library or checking a public library so they can borrow this book.

3) Certain individuals would steal for various reasons. In my opinion, some people steal for the fun of it. The thrill and adrenaline they drive from such actions serve as a boost for them such people are often regarded are kleptomanias.Other individuals will steal because they are truly lack resources to afford for the things they need and are forced to carry out these actions. However no matter the reason why people act this way, It is important to support them and post them to the right path as stealing for whatever reason is not always the best response. They should seek help from appropriate authorities or find out resources near them that could be helpful

1) At this moment, I will try to avoid any assumptions and start by gathering all the information I need to make an informed decision. I will approach this man in a non-confrontational manner and verify why he needs this chair.

2) If he lets me know this chair if for his loved one who is disable then I will understand as this is the purpose for the wheelchair. However If this man lets me know that he is taking the car for his own use, I will want to gather more information by asking him questions to know more if he has a physical disability or difficulty walking. If he declines and reinstates he is fine and he needs the chair for himself, I will let him know that that is not the purpose for the wheelchair as it is for those who are physically disabled.

3) Society can be more inclusive to disabled people by catering to their needs and acknowledging that they are not as privilege. If an individual who attends a secondary school is physically disabled, the school can be more inclusive by ensuring that there are lifts  available to aid their mobility and also that there are wheelchair accessible routes in the campus.

Scenario 1

You have just discovered someone selling a test bank for your calculus class on Kijiji. You are struggling in this class, and so this can potentially really help your grade.

1. Would you purchase the test bank?

2. Would you report the seller if their identity is not anonymous?

3. If you were one A+ from meeting the GPA requirement to maintain a scholarship that you desperately need, would this change your answer?

1) This situation is one of an ethical dilemma.I know that in order to succeed academically, one has to put in the work. I know I am struggling in this calculus classes and my best option will be to consult with the lecturer for help and more tutoring. Buying the test bank is unfair and defeats the integrity of the test. I would not purchase this test back as it is unfair to my fellow course mates. It is cheating and it is not the best thing to do

2) I would try to reach out to the seller in a non-confrontational manner and let them know my concerns I will let them know selling the test bank negates the validity and integrity of the test. I will let them know how their actions of selling this test bank is unfair to other students who put in the work to study. I will give him/her an opportunity to take their listing down from kijiji and stop selling it. I am aware that despite letting them know that this is the best option is good but the decision to act on it lies on them. However, if they decline to remove this listing I will call the attention to the professor about this issue.

3)This would not change my response, I believe in being honest and fair. I believe that hardwork contributes to success. Knowing I have to keep my grade up is a factor that would boost me to study more and  not try to escape or choose easier options.
