Aspiring Physicians' Perspective on Research Experience?

Recommended Posts

Survey closes September 30th, 2021 at 11:59pm EST

Hi everyone!

The following message is an invitation to take part in our study regarding aspiring physicians’ perspectives on the importance of research involvement as part of the medical school admissions process by filling out a brief survey.

Survey responses are due September 30th, 2021 at 11:59pm EST!

We are two undergraduate students who are currently project assistants within a research team at McMaster University. Currently, we are working on a research project that is being conducted under the supervision of Dr. Lawrence Grierson and Dr. Stacey Ritz, medical education researchers at McMaster University.
This study has been reviewed by the Hamilton Integrated Research Ethics Board (HiREB). The HiREB is responsible for ensuring that participants are informed of the risks associated with the research, and that participants are free to decide if participation is right for them. If you have any questions about your rights as a research participant, please call the Office of the Chair, HiREB, at 905.521.2100 x 42013.

We would like to better understand the perspectives of aspiring physicians and what they believe about the value of research for medical school applications, and also for a career as a physician. Moreover, we would like to learn where these perspectives or beliefs are founded.
  • You are eligible to participate in the study if you:
  • Are a Canadian undergraduate/CEGEP student
  • Plan to apply to a Canadian medical school within the next five years

The survey will only take about 15 minutes to complete.
We hope you can answer the questionnaire honestly, as any false responses would affect the results of our study. All responses will be kept anonymous and confidential and will only be used for research purposes. We will not collect your name or any information that would allow you to be identified. No one will know whether you participated unless you choose to tell them. Participation in the study will not affect your chances of getting into medical school. Medical school admission teams will not know whether you participated in this study unless you choose to tell them.
Your participation in this study is voluntary. It is your choice to be part of the study or not. If you decide to be part of the study then change your mind, you can stop (withdraw) part-way through. The questions in the study are not mandatory. If you do not want to answer some of the questions you do not have to, but you can still be in the study.
