med3213
Hi everyone, I realize there's another thread from 6 months ago with ongoing discussion regarding the possibility of FM residency being extended to three years, but I thought I'd make another thread with this new resource from the CFPC. Below is the CFPC's report titled "Preparing Our Future Family Physicians: A final report and recommendations of the Outcomes of Training Project". https://www.cfpc.ca/CFPC/media/Resources/Education/AFM-OTP-Report.pdf Some highlights : "...residency training programs will require additional resources to fully meet these expectations, and this is a main rationale for extending the length of training in family medicine." "Family medicine training programs are underresourced, necessitating a longer training period. Canada has the shortest length and broadest scope of training among comparator countries. Extra time is required to enhance practice preparedness for comprehensive care, and to deliver on necessary curricular enhancements." "Of significant interest is the recommendation to increase the length of training in family medicine to three years (from the current two years). More time enables programs to expand and enhance the curriculum guided by the RTP and to strengthen preparedness for comprehensive, top of scope practice." Interested in hearing everyone's thoughts.
