dooogs
Hi! I am wondering how long should you know staff to ask for a great letter ? I'm referring to amount of interactions (clinical and non-clinical like research) and type of interactions. With some staff in small specialities, even though I've worked with them quite a bit longitudinally on research projects, we have not spent a lot of time in person (maybe ~5-6 days). With no visiting electives we are capped at 2 weeks maximum 4 (these are a different preceptor each day). I feel awkward and somewhat worried about asking for letters because I am unsure if they feel like they know me well enough to really go to bat for me. What do you think? caramelpanic
It varied a lot for me, some were based on interactions over 1-2 weeks and others over a couple of years. I think 5-6 days is more than enough time for a letter. Bambi
Bambi
I've received strong LORs after 2 weeks. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. All depends upon the person you approach and his/her ideas, which are entirely subjective.
