medmedmed132
A friend was telling me the degree can be completed in 4 years instead of 5, because the 5th year is an intern year. Could they apply to CaRMS after four years?
Edict
No they can't. Its not a real intern year in Ireland. Its equivalent to clerkship but they don't even do as much as they do here.
jnuts
The 5th year at TCD is not an intern year. Medicine as a course of study in Ireland is usually done as a first degree and takes 5-6years (including two final clinical years). The shorter 4 year Graduate Entry Medicine programs are for students with a bachelor's degree already taking Medicine as a second degree (and also includes two final clinical years). The Internship Year is the first year after graduation in Ireland. It is a formal medical job where you get called doctor and have clinical responsibilities. You must be graduating within 12 months to apply to CaRMS and graduated to start residency.
