Diffrences in Registered Nurse and Physician Assistant

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I am in my last year of high school and like both careers ( RN and PA). However, I am curious about a few questions for these professions.

1) What does the daily schedule look like for someone in a PA program vs someone in an RN program?

2) What kind of courses or bachelor's degrees do people have, that got into PA schools ( like the University of Calgary, McMaster University, etc)?

3) What kind of courses or bachelor's degrees would be helpful to get into PA school and will make it easier in the program itself?

4) Is it true or possible that PAs can alternate between their fields of practice? For instance, if you are an ER physician assistant and you want to transfer/change into a surgical field or other pediatric care field. If yes, can registered nurses do the same?

5) Realistically, how long does it take people to become a certified PA or RN? Including time spent in post-secondary.

6) Is it true that there is a big salary difference between a PA and an RN?

-- And I would love to hear any other comments, suggestions, or recommendations from PA or RN.

I am from Canada, Alberta, and would appreciate it if any Canadians would reply too, thanks.
