Guest sparkle
Hi, I'm not sure if this was asked before but I was wondering how strict are schools about having applicants take a full course load (30 units Jan-April)? I've taken 4 courses every semester and now I realize that there's practically no schools that I can apply for (just UBC and Toronto) and even if I apply, I'm frowned upon!!! There's nothing I can do about it now but does that mean I've messed up all chances of ever achieving my dream??? I'm very interested in Western, Ottawa, Calgary and Alberta?? Any advice on what I can do? Sparkle
Guest Kirsteen
Hi there, Ottawa used to consider a year with 4.0 or 4.5 courses as full-time, i.e., not just 5.0 courses. I believe Calgary was the same, i.e., you could have just less than 5.0 courses for those two best years. UWO is strict with their full course load policy and I don't know much about Alberta's. Thus, if those policies still remain, you still have a dream to pursue at both Calgary and Ottawa. Cheers, Kirsteen
Guest marbledust
For Calgary you need at least 4 courses per semester in your two best years. However, if you are a non-Alberta resident, you will likely need to have a spectacular record, because, unlike some (maybe all?) Ontario schools, there is a quota on the number of non-Alberta residents interviewed and accepted.
Guest Lactic Folly
For the U of A, I think you need one year in which you have taken 10 courses from September to April, so if you're still in school you could fulfill this during the upcoming school year. Guest sparkle
Thanks for your help:) I don't think I will be applying to Western since they are so strict Makes me kind of sad to have to eliminate a school I like for that reason. I kind of want to give it a chance and apply anyways but it seems completely futile if they're just going to put my application in the "ineligible" pile. But I'm still planning on applying to Ottawa and Calgary because I'm very interested in their med programs. I just really hope I have a chance b/c I'd be out of province for those schools...I'm not sure what my GPA is because of all the different conversion systems? What's consider competitive (for oop)?
