Guest notic2
Hi I am a high school student in Ontario, Canada in Grade 12. This is my final year My average was 85% and I got accepted to York Kinesiology and Health Sciences, as well as to the Mcmaster Kinesiology Programme. My question is as follows... Is Kinesiology a more rigorous undergrad programme compared to lets say, Biology, or Chemistry?? Does my chances of getting into medical school drastically decrease??? And Also, in Ontario, does the University really matter? Here's the dilemma. If I go to York, and I don't get accepted into medical school, I am basically left with a crummy degree. If i go to Mcmaster however, I can get a good job simply because Mcmaster is renowed for its Health Programmes. If Anyone can give me advice, or insights it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Regards,
Guest Kirsteen
Hi there, Is Kinesiology a more rigorous undergrad programme compared to lets say, Biology, or Chemistry?? Does my chances of getting into medical school drastically decrease??? I can't comment as to the rigour of kinesiology and chemistry programs relative to biology programs as I've never completed either of the first two. I'd imagine, however, that there may be some variability in these programs between different schools. In that regard, it might help to chat with current students in each of those programs at each school. With respect to your second question, your chances of entering medical school will largely not be influenced by the type of program that you're in; rather, your chances will rest on how you perform in the program that you're in. In short, select a school and program that you feel you shall enjoy the most, and thus, that in which you shall have the best opportunity of performing well. Cheers, Kirsteen
Guest CareBear15
York does not offer "crummy" degrees. As well, kinesiology at York is not as rigorous a program as biology or chemistry if you compare the difficulty of required courses. That is not to say the kinesiology program at York isn't excellent - the sports program is very well respected and you will certainly learn a lot related to exercise physiology and human anatomy. Study what you love, go where you think you'll fit in the best.
Guest jehohertz
As someone who is also going to be taking Kin (going back to school, career change, etc) at York, but ultimately wants to do Med school at Mac I have studied both in-depth. For me York won out only because I have various reasons to stay in the Toronto area (fiance is a new teacher with TDSB and can use a few years to gain seniority, etc, my martial arts school is here and I am a brown belt and want my black, etc). ALSO, at York they have these certificates you can work towards and my fiancee (who also takes martial arts) injured her knee (she always had problems with it) one of the instructors at the school was Kin grad from York and had earned her Athletic Therapy certificate and has her own very successful in-home therapy business. My fiancee says she has never felt better and the knee, which she has a family history of knee problems, has never bugged her since. Quite remarkable and I intend to do the AT route, as well York has an amazing layout for if you want to go to med school with all the courses laid out based on your major. However I also have been told Mac using Problem Based Learning (PBL) in all areas, not just med school. As someone who has done alot of correspondance courses while working full-time, that really appeals to me. And Mac's med school program is a whole different post but there are numerous why it _will_ have a place in my future. So to answer your question, York or Mac, no one can but you. Both will prepare you for med school as much as any other university. I've laid out my reasons for choosing York. Just bear in mind, as much as a university may be well known for its health programmes at the undergrad level I don't think it really makes a lick of difference where you go in terms of gaining employment. Go where you want, where you feel you can excel the most, where the extracurriculars appeal to you, the city appeals to you, etc. I hope this made sense, I'm writing this quickly as I am at work. Guest TheDDSDude
I say go to where you like to go best. Both Kin programs are good. Now if you want to see more hot chicks, go to York. mac has a lot less. York is known for its "fashion show" student body. Those who go to York know I'm speaking the truth.
