Botched transplant in NC

I just read today about a mix up that happened in regards to a heart-lung transplant for a teenager in North Carolina. I'm sure most of you have heard the story, but if you haven't I'll provide a brief synopsis. A girl needed a heart-lung transplant and they gave her type 'A' organs when she is a blood type 'O'. Anyway, that was a week ago and she almost died in the meantime, yesterday she received the right blood type organs. I just wanted to ask current med students (1) what do you think about this and (2) Do you think a malpractice suit will follow? Anyway, I am in total disbelief how something like this can happen, either it's total incompetence on the doctor's part or an administrative mix-up. Either scenerio is pretty scary to think about and I think situations like these are just adding to patients fears, no wonder so many people doubt their doctors! :eek
