question about perks at UBC - backpack, locker?

I have some silly questions:

Is UBC still handing out those blue backpacks to med students?

Secondly, are med students alloted any locker space in the life sciences building or otherwise?

Any other special perks we should know about?

Lockers, showers, 24/7 access to building and computer lab (meds and dents only swipe card access), all YES!

oh - and it was BCMA and MD Management that provided the backpacks. Sadly, the quality of them stinks, and I would say most of ours have been repaired (duct tape is common), or just went to backpack heaven.

Blue backpacks? Yes, I'm pretty sure BCMA is gonna give them out again this year when you register with them.

Showers at LSC? yes, they're included in some of the washrooms at LSC.

Building open 24/7? Not to the public, but yes to med and dent students. You will get an access card that will get you into the building and the computer lab anytime of the day.

[edit] oops! I guess Kels press the reply post button 1 minute earlier than I did. haha

Do we get t-shirts/hoodies that say UBC Medicine class of 2009 or something like that?

Or is MUS going to make one?? Should our class get together to organize it?

I'm getting excited about these perks :rollin

As far as I know, your class will need to organize some kind of T-shirt sell next yr for your own class. The 2nd years will be selling medicine / dentistry clothings to raise money for rural practice.

Just to add that clinical skill rooms have stretchers for you to sleep overnight, if you wish.

The med student lounge has some rudimentary cooking equipment, but a cool project for class of 2009 would be to install a full kitchen.

Hey,

Just a heads up - there are "prime real-estate" lockers on the ground floor of the LSC. You may be able to snag one from a current first year who neglects to keep the lock on throughout the summer. Get em quick, they're also bigger than the ones downstairs.

Actually - now that the building has opened up for research, the PBL rooms and multi-purpose lab are open to people who have labs in the building as well.

Hi Koomi,

I understand why you are so excited about the perks. I, for one, am really excited as well. However, why on earth would you be soooo excited about the UBC medicine T-shirts :\ . Do these T-shirts really mean so much to you that if they weren't available that you would make the effort to design/create your own? Why?? Do you just want to show off to others that you got in??? Personally, I think that we all can be a little more humble here:smokin .

Crazypremed: So we'll count you out of the t-shirt then. ;)

I just asked because I've seen other dent/med students wearing them and i was wondering if they were provided each year for us or they made them.

Plus, I wouldn't mind one that says I'm a med student either :o Of course we don't want to BRAG about getting in but we don't have to hide it either do we? It's more for self rather than to show off to others :D

BTW, it's not that much trouble to make them. I did it for my class and faculty last year and it was just really simple and we all enjoyed it. >:
