Guest ploughboy
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference." The Serenity Prayer (Alcoholics Anonynmous) Hey all, With OMSAS and other apps due in less than a month, there seems to be a real upswing in questions of the form "I don't have X on my application, is that bad?" I don't want to discourage anybody from asking questions, 'cuz that's why this board exists. However I hope I can calm a few frazzeled nerves... You don't have to be a super-star to get into med school. Heck, I got in! So don't fret if you feel that part of your application package is lacking. There's not a lot that you can do about any self-perceived deficiencies between now and the deadline anyway. Don't beat yourself up over things you think that a pre-med *ought* to have done, and don't waste a lot of energy comparing yourself to other applicants (it's tough, I know!). Go with what you've got, put your best foot forward and be proud of the path you've taken thus far. If things don't work out for you in this cycle, *then* you can start thinking of ways to strengthen your application for next year. Good luck to all! pb -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (OpenBSD) iD8DBQFDKeRH/HNgbK3bC2wRAofrAJwJJKGX5CI5xQMRdwOMJU3ExNc2LgCeIzTG OZWOsRwHwog6z4V1xahOgXo= =ZvqG -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
Guest 0T6
Good post! We just had physician skills development and our 2 tutors (who are 2nd and 3rd year residents) were talking about how there's no checklist or "ideal candidate" for residency and it's the exact same thing for med school. You do what you do and you hope for the best! I'd be depressed if my class was full of clones but it's full of a wonderfully DIVERSE group of people and I think that's what schools want.. so don't stress about what you don't have, and be proud of what you DO have! Good luck everyone
