USMLE Step 1 - McMaster Medical School

To McMaster medical students:

 

Has anyone (or anyone you know) wrote the USMLE Step 1? If so, did you find it difficult not having had a didactic, comprehensive review of the subject matter (as you might find at a more traditional medical school)? Were you able to allocate sufficient time in advance of the test to adequately prepare? Were you satisfied with your mark? And, do you think being at Mac disadvantaged you for this test?

 

While we are on this subject, do you know what type of weighting the US residency directors place of the results of the USMLE Step1?

I know of one person who wrote the USMLE...she just matched to Internal Meds at Johns Hopkins...I really couldn't tell you however, I don't think that many people write it...there may be a few in the year ahead of me...I'm sure it took a lot of self-directed learning because from what I understand alot of the material is undergrad science mainly...
