Guest Sandman AK
Maybe this thread can be one where those with questions can be asked. Mine: For the Essay, what am I suppose to write about? Just a general personal statement that all schools will see?
Guest Kirsteen
Hi there, Yes, a general personal statement is what is required. Many of the schools will require you to complete a secondary application which sill often include one or more additional, specific essays. Those essays are a good opportunity to expand upon or introduce aspects of your background to the medical school(s). Cheers, Kirsteen
Guest Sandman AK
Thank you Kirsteen. I'm typing out my descriptions in Microsoft Word. Has anyone experienced a problem with it when they submitted the application? Just so everyone knows they recommend Microsoft Notepad.
Guest Kirsteen
Hi there, One of the problems that you might run into using Word is the transferability of punctuation. For example, apostrophes may not appear as you've typed them. This generally will not happen if you use Notepad. Thus, if you're going to use Word to enter your essays, make sure you double-check them very carefully for grammar. Cheers, Kirsteen
Guest Sandman AK
Silly question...but...should we should American spelling or Canadian? No one is working on their applications now? I hope I'm not behind...
Guest thatuvicguy
I'm applying to an osteopathic school in the states through AACOMAS but I tend to go to the Student Doctor Network forums for questions on this. You will find it very helpful for US applications. PS - not sure about your spelling question Cheers, thatuvicguy
Guest moo
Be consistent. I don't think they really care one way or the other. But be careful, Americans don't say "grade one, grade two, etc." they say "first grade, second grade." There are some other minor annoyances too but in general just be consistent and you'll be ok. Guest Sandman AK
Transcript Request The registrar at my school won't use a courier service to send the transcripts to AMCAS because they use a P.O. Box. Also, if I try to get my own transcripts they stamp "Issued to Student" on them and thus AMCAS will not accept them. So regular mail is the way to go....who knows how long it will take to get there! Did anyone else have to go through this? I just hope they sealed it all correctly. Time is running out.
