How many schools?

I have heard from my friends out East that given logistics and cost most Westerners don't apply to many schools.

Just wondering if that held for Albertans. Therefore the question: How many schools did you apply to?

I have applied to only Alberta and CY for reasons that have to do with $$$ and my (relative) competitiveness (that may not be a real word :) in the applicant pool.

<title>MCAT scores!</title>

<pagetext>Hey,

Does Calgary require that I release my scores officially? I wrote the MCAT in August of 2002 (did not release) and will be writing it again in August 2003. I hope to increase my scores a point or two. Should I release my 2002 scores?

Thanks

<title>GPA / Percent Average Conversion</title>

<pagetext>Coming out of high school, the idea of a GPA is a little difficult to grasp right now. I've seen a few resources and know generally how the system works, but I was wondering if I could get a little more clarification from some people who have experienced it.

Since I will be taking my undergrad next year at Calgary, I'm putting it in the Calgary forum with the hope more people who know the Calgary 4 point alpha scale will see it.

How exactly does the GPA scale at the U of C compare to percent averages like we're used to seeing in high school? There seem to be a lot of resources covering how the overall GPA is calculated, and a few showing inter-university conversions, but I can't seem to find much about GPA/% equivalencies.

(At Calgary) what kind of GPA would you get from a 70% average? 80%? 90%?

From all the posts on this forum that talk about how most students marks fall 5 - 15 % from high school to university, it would be helpful to know what kind of averages net what kind of GPAs, and therefore how you could expect to do in university (taking into account the difficulty of your program/courses/outside life, etc.)

I'm sure this is a newb-ish question with some simple answers, but if a vet could point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks for any replies. :D

<pagetext>Hi,

does anyone know what happened to the up-to-date status window on UC's website?

It's no longer there and I was wondering if my chance to check up on the status of my application expired....

thanks!

<pagetext>Does anyone know when we are expected to hear from the committee?? I saw on a Saskatchewan thread (PartyCal??) that we should be hearing shortly. So do you think it will be sooner than the May 15 date stated online??

<title>Changing from the finance world to medicine</title>

<pagetext>Hi. Okay I finally decided to follow my heart and I'm going to try to get into med school. The thing is that I'm gracuating from a BComm next month and have only taken 1 science class to date (chem). I know most of the work though since a lot of my friends took them my first few years in college. I go to a school in the east now but I went to U of C for a few years also. I am applying there to do a second degree a BSc in Natural Sciences.

Now, I was wondering if you had any suggestions for concentrations I could take (such as bio, chem etc) that will not be so challenging as to drive my grades down but that I can do well in and learn from (i.e no rocks for jocks). I need to ask for help in picking a concentration and courses other than those required for admission into most med schools. Also, do you know if this program will take more than 2 years because I want to enter med school in 2005.

Thanks for your help in advance.
