<title>Out-of-province MCAT cut-off</title>

<pagetext>Is there a traditional MCAT cutoff for out-of-province applicants?

Hi there,

There is no MCAT cut-off set by Calgary for any applicants. That is, although other schools reduce the size of their applicant pools by setting strict MCAT cut-offs, Calgary do not. Instead, the MCAT factors into the Calgary admissions process in that applicants are given a score out of 5 for their MCAT performance relative to the other applicants in that year's applicant pool. On Calgary's website, mind you, they mention that they like to see 10s in each numerical section. I'm conjecturing that this may mean that assessors are instructed to give a certain minimum score to applicants who meet these minimums, or alternatively, the Calgary Admissions folks are trying to give applicants an idea of the range of MCAT marks that are deemed acceptable or competitive in the admissions process. :)

Cheers,

Kirsteen

If anyone applied to UBC as well, you'll notice that the application program is the same, but UBC gives you 3 pages for the EC section, while Calgary only gives you one!

I'm having a tough time jamming it all in.

Anyway, I shouldn't complain too much because this sure beats a paper application!

And I also love how Calgary gives you till January 4th for your reference letters.

Anyway, how's the application process for the rest of you semi-quasi-last minute people?

Good luck with everything!

Kirsteen, when you say they "like" to see 10s, are you referring to the average MCAT scores accepted last year, or something else?...cause I was under the impression these were only average scores...maybe I missed a section on the website though?

Hi Magnolia,

Previously, within the U.Calgary website, it mentioned something about an MCAT score of 10-10-10 being desirable, although I upon checking now, I see that the website's been changed in the past few months. :)

Cheers,

Kirsteen
