Application - Explaining poor MCATS??

Hello,

This is my first time applying to Calgary this year and I noticed a section for explaining poor MCAT scores. I scored 27O on the MCAT and will be applying as an out of province applicant. I know U of C doesn't accept very many oop and I'm quite worried about my MCAT scores. Otherwise, I feel my grades and EC are quite strong. I don't know if I should provide an explanation for this or would it sound like a bad excuse? Truth is that I encountered some unanticipated financial troubles and as a result, had to take on an extra part time job on top of my full time job to help pay the bills. This didn't leave much time to study. :(

Hi there sparkle,

Take heart: even if one of your five application sections are weak (academics, MCAT, essay, reference letters, employment) you still have a shot as an out-of-province applicant at Calgary.

If you feel that the circumstances surrounding your MCAT experience are acute and valid, and you think you can express this without sounding like you're making excuses, then by all means, fill in those details on the application. :)

Good luck,

Kirsteen
