Guest Elaine I
How many students do their clerkship in centres other than Kingston? Do students go to these other centres for their entire clerkship, or just for one or two blocks (3 months?)? How are students selected to go out of town? Do they volunteer, or are they chosen at random? What towns/cities other than Kingston are used for clerkships? Thanks for the information, Elaine
Guest Sarah371
Elaine, There are only limited spots to do out of town clerkship rotations and in general you are never required to go out of town. Some options are obs/gyn (Peterborough), Pediatrics(Belleville), Psychiatry (Oshawa). As the classes at Queen's have gotten larger more people have been need to go out of town. Each rotation has an apartment so you don't have to pay two rents. Most people who have chosen to go out of town for one or more rotations have had good experiences. In general everyone is required to set up their Family Medicine Block (4 weeks) out of town....most people o a rural rotation but it is not unheard of to do an urban rotation if you want to.
