Guest Ian Wong
Author:*Student Date:***2/23/2001 10:02 pm*PST * Hi, I need some advice, and here's my story: Facts: I'm in my 4th year at Queens in Life Science, and here is a breakdown of my marks: 1st year: 70% average 2nd year: 70% average 3rd year: 73% average 4th year: 82% average (half term so far..) Projected overall average: ~75%. Queens considers 80-100 an A. In 1st and 2nd year, I took 4.5 courses (a full workload is 5). I am currently taking 6 courses this year. Each year I have taken course levels corresponding to my year. For example, I take 400 level courses in 4th year, etc. As you can see, my marks aren't stellar. I really partied hard the first 3 years, and this year I've decided to really work. Even with the extra course load I've managed to get a A-. I haven't written my MCAT yet, and I plan to this summer. I've applied to grad school at Queens in Microbiology and Pharmocology. Now the questions: 1. I realize that my overall GPA isn't good enough; will going to graduate schoool, coupled with a good trend in marks in my undergraduate years be sufficient, in terms of marks, for med school? My plan is to get into grad school, and apply after one year. 2. Are there schools that just strictly look at one year? 3. Instead of grad school, should I take one extra year of undergraduate, and perhaps grab a minor, thus upgrading my overall GPA? 4. What's your opinion/suggestion?
