Sparkles
How do withdrawls look on a record? I had an advisor tell me to take 1 or 2 withdrawls since both grades are fairly low. 65 and 70. Everything else is looking good. Would it be better to push through with these courses? Or withdraw before the deadline? I'm not confident I can slaughter the final exams.
TonesRN
There's been a lot of debate about this on previous threads. Although it might not look the best to have a number of 'W's on your transcript, it is definitely better, at least in my opinion, than having really low grades which can have 'actual' detrimental effects on your application to med school. Seeing as how you aren't too confident that you will be able to boost those grades up, withdrawing from the course might be a better choice for you. I realize that in the grand scheme of things a couple of low marks might not have a huge impact, but on the other hand, they possibly could. That's not a risk that I would be willing to take. Hope this helps.
The_B
I agree with Tones, but another thing that you should remember is that some schools (at least Western, no idea about others) won't look at any year with out a full course load. Just something you should be aware of.
Sparkles
Do you mean every year has to be a full course load?
Sparkles
Quite honestly....I'm starting to think the high GPA is more important than a full first semester....I can get my 2 full years in still. The advisor told me that the med schools don't know when the withdrawl occured......early Sept or late Nov......so it probably doesn't hold much standing. Has anybody heard different? Satsuma
A high GPA wont matter if the schools you are applying to won`t count that year/semester if it wasn`t full-time.
JOy
um..where I goI have 5 courses per semester...I just recently had to drop my calc class, and I plan to replace it next semester with another course..so basically I would finish nine 0.5 credits this sem...does that mean its not a full course load? TimmyMax
Hey, UWO considers 5.0 credits (not 4.5, not 4.0, not 3.5, etc.) a full-time courseload. It doesn't matter how you choose to break down your courses between semesters, so long as you end up with 10 half-credit course or equivalent between September and April of the year in question. Personally, I think that 'WD's on transcripts look particularly bad, but I somehow doubt that schools penalize you for them all that much... Sparkles
So I decided to drop it. I don't feel I can necessarily pull off a pass on the final. I now have 2 withdraws on my record....one from Sept due to class conflict and this one. But I feel it will look better than bad grades. As long as I don't get anymore. I'm going to keep plugging away....I'll never know if I don't try.
