Who received an Interview Letter from Mac?

Recommended Posts

According to Mac, they don't send out invitation letters to anyone until early February. Are you sure that this letter isn't the one that verifies her geographical status? It also has potential dates of interviews in the letter. I don't think that Mac would send out invitation letters this early since they have over 4800 applications to sort through to determine who gets an interview.

she's re-taking certain undergrad courses @ mac to fulfill prerequisites for Ottawa Med School.

and yes, im pretty sure that she did.

Edit: I just realized that she may be an exception because the website clearly states that interview invitations will go out in March and April. Her husband is a surgeon and all 3 of her reference letters are from MDs. That could be why...

That is weird... I dont think Mac would place any emphasis on the ref. letters being from MDs.

are you sure its for an interview?

I want to point out the various misconceptions that plagues the above message. as far as I know, there are no exceptions to the rules of application and processing. IF what you say were indeed true, it would have no impact on the other applicants. reference letters are evaluated based on CONTENT, not who wrote it. autobiographical sketches have not been assessed yet, and I imagine that this will take place after november when we have received them.

By the way, reference letters ARE NOT even looked at for invitation to interview. Mac only considers the GPA, ABS scores, and graduate degree, if applicable, when determining who will receive an interview. They will only consider the sketch and reference letters of those individuals who have received an interview, so that won't be until later in the process.

Rubberdock is totally right, people don't even get the autobiographical submissions to mark until later this week and next week, so there is really no way someone could be invited for an interview already. Also, as stated, reference letters haven't been looked at yet....and if people were being accepted for interview simply based on using 3 doctors as referee's I'd be real worried about how the Mac process works (just to quel people's fears it doesn't work like that...content is important in the reference letters, and then they are only really looking for red flags!)

Who marks the ABS portion anyways? Is it senior medical students? Faculty? Others?

So it all depends on the perception of the person who marks.....one has to be lucky!!!

What other way could there be? As with most of med applications at most schools, aside from gpa/mcat, it is a subjective submission and the only way to grade it is subjective in manner. As such, it obviously is always going to depend on the perception of the people who read your submission... and thus, even with a great application, there must also be a little bit of luck involved. :)

My neighbour (a mature student) with two children got an interview from MAC that is scheduled to take place in March.

She's currently doing her undergrad studies at McMaster.

Who else?

Are you sure it wasn't the letter that indicates the interview dates and asks you to reply if for any reason you wont be able to make it on any one of those days....??

There is also a degree of perception in looking at "objective" factors such as GPA/MCAT. I am sure that we would get varied responses on this forum regarding how good a 30 is on the MCAT or how good a 3.5GPA is.

The degree of subjectivity increases especially if no cut-offs for interviews are posted.
