shehpar786
Hi, I heard Ottawa has higher GPA cutoffs for applicants from out of ottawa regions e.g. Toronto, London etc. Is this true? I thought Ottawa's cutoffs were the same for everybody from Ontario!!
Kiel
I know there is a difference in GPA but I think it is quite minuscule.
TimmyMax
Hey, Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Ottawa has lower cutoffs for applicants from the Ottawa area (not sure of the boundaries, so don't bother asking me), and a higher set of cutoffs for the rest of Ontario (and an even higher one for OOP applicants? I'm not sure about that last part). At least they did back when I was applying, but that was a long time ago...
lostintime
I heard it was 3.6 for Ottawa people and 3.83 for other Ontario people. Yeah really unfair. Blah, if you live in Toronto, you have the worst luck possible; no one gives you a lending hand in terms of being favored =(
hp18
Whole system is faulty... we living in Toronto suffer............
AMmd
does Hull (or Gatineau) count as ottawa region? Even tho its actually in quebec?
Kirsteen
Hi there, Ottawa has quite an elaborate set of cut-offs for various regions within Canada, and yes, the cut-off for applicants within Ottawa is lower than most of the other cut-offs. The boundaries for the cut-off regions have changed slightly from year to year, to you'd be best off contacting Admissions to see what they might be this year. Cheers, Kirsteen
0T6
These are the cutoffs for 2007 unless there's a big disparity between estimated number of applications and actual applications. Anglophone program: Aboriginals/Canadian Forces - 3.4 Underserviced areas (N. Ont) - 3.55 Regional (Ottawa) - 3.6 In province - 3.83 OOP - 3.87 Francophone program CNFS/Aboriginal/CF - 3.4 Ontario - 3.4 OOP - 3.

shehpar786
So it is very unlikely that the cutoff will be 3.9something for non-Ottawa Ontario students, correct?
Kuantum
A cut-off of 3.90 would be so insane. However, in a few years, that may not be so insane anymore - especially at places like UofT and Ottawa (for OOP).
PHANTOMPHOENIX
So it is very unlikely that the cutoff will be 3.9something for non-Ottawa Ontario students, correct? It looks like the non-Ottawa Ontario cut-off has been very steady over the years so I am not expecting a sudden jump. At least I hope not, because if it jumps beyond 3.9, I will be screwed
The Law
I think that the cutoffs are probably at their highest levels right now. I don't think they will become higher. Of course, nobody knows... we'll see what happens!

This is the first cut-off however, interviews are made on the basis of the cut-off as well as evaluation of the detailed sketch.
The Soccer Guy
Yeah, this is ridiculous ... and the worst part is, it is most likely going to go up in future. But oh well ... gotta hit the books and be ready for whatever comes.

degoo_
If anything, the personal sketch might become more and more valued.
katerade
does anyone have a sense of how many rejections are made on the basis of the sketch alone (ie if you pass the cutoff)? I do pass the ontario applicant cutoff, but I'd like to know if this means i have a really good chance of getting an interview or if it just means i've passed another round. is the sketch just a flag, like if its really bad it will exclude you? or is it more important than that. Thanks for any help you can give me
Kuantum
When does Ottawa start sending interview invites and how do they do it? E-mail, letter?
0T6
katerade.. last year about 1100 people made GPA cutoffs, of which about 450-500 interviews were offered so yah the sketch is VERY important.. unfortunately i know a few people who had 3.95+ GPAs who didn't get interviewed. fortunately they got into schools that weigh GPA higher (UWO, UT) Kuantum - the office is working pretty hard these days getting everything in order so my guess is LATE this week or sometime next week and it will be by email over the course of a day (so if someone posts that they got an email and you haven't gotten one yet that doesn't necessarily mean you won't).
