CutieYellow
There's a thread in the Med forum concerning its effect on our current studies. I think there's so much more involved then just a pay increase. That Bill 37 totally restricts the specialists' fundamental rights. It's going to be a longgggg haul and i really hope it doesn't mean that there will be NO class of 2007 in Qc... CY
Maxime
Yeah, the specialists rights are completely violated. My tutor, an internist, was telling us that if he wanted to cut down on his working hours (say, pass from 60 to 55, to spend more time with his kids), it would be impossible for him to do, without obtaining beforehand an authorization from the Qc government to do so. They're not even allowed to do anything about their situation (say, do a strike or apply any other means of pressure), because it's illegal for them to do so. As CY has said, it's much more than just a question of salary, it's a question of principal. Unfortunately though, it's us med students who have to cope with this unpleasant situation.... AMmd
Bill 37 came after the original demand from the specialists to increase their salary, perhaps as a scare tactic. However, I wanted to know what people thought, should the specialists be allocated a 44% increase in salary (as they asked)… or should this money be spent on other services? I personally don’t think it’s fair that they are using students to pressure the government. When nurses manifest for example, they don’t have that power so their claims are in vain, most of the time.
