gregfocker
I'll just ask a random question. On my sneaking suspision that I will not be granted an interview and subsequent admission this year... In my 2008 (sigh:rolleyes: ) application, should I mention that my wife and her family is from Thunderbay? Im from rural Southern Ontario with no family left in the province, so our only family left is in the north, although I have no direct ties to the community there. I thought of cramming it in my application this year, but it seemed so forced. Any thoughts?
Doc2011
I would NOT hesistate to put that in! It's a long shot, but it can probably work in your favor!
Real Beef
Well, dont give up all hope yet ... remember people who will eventually get in and those that wont are hearing the same noise at this point .... no noise ... so the silence at this point is being experienced by everyone. Im hoping for an interview at the very least myself even though on paper I am not considered a resident of Northern Ontario, despite the fact that I will have lived in Northern Ontario for almost 3 years by the time the first classes start. If I dont get an interview there is not much use for me to apply next year as not much will have changed with my application besides continuing my current activities (continuing my masters, continue living in NO, might join a local community lobbying group though to get a bit more community involvement). An interview will at least let me know that they are interested in my application BUT that I could benefit from living in NO for longer (more points) and to finish my Masters (more points) ... meaning that given time I will be considered ... if no interview than I will skip next application year until I finish my masters and accumulate 4-5 years living in NO. woods
I am in a very similar situation...my wife and much of her family are from the north, my parents have just built a home in the north and i have a great deal of work experience up there (summer job type stuff) but I cannot honestly say i've resided in the north. Its a little discouraging; I tried emphasizing it on my app last year but I'm not sure it will help at all. What can you say, really? Everyone on the app will say how they love canoeing and camping. Great. I actually would love to practice up north, but how should they tell?
Kidha
Woods U r Right! Everyone is going to say they would love to live and practice in the North. I always hear how you need to convince them that is what you want and be better at convincing them than the next candidate...I don't that will work. You demonstrate your desire by showing that you have opted to work in these areas or study in these areas when you were given the choice (ABS and interview). Saying that you really really want to do this won't cut it...they want to see if you have already experienced it (willing to can be faked). If you are born there you are super lucky because that just happens automatically and u have the advantage by default. Okay so if you haven't lived in the North what do you do? The answer is you have to smoke everyone in grades, your interview, and ABS (pretty much the rest of the application). I would suspect you would have to be better than the average getting in on your interview score and ABS. GPA i would think you better be sitting around 3.7 if you are not from NOntario. If you are a big city kid (no rural living)...I wouldn't even bother unless you have very high 3.9 GPA and extensive work with underserviced communties........or bother to apply but don't expect much.
