hooray4beer
I'm new on this forum, so this question may have been addressed in another post somewhere else... Anyone know anything about the masters degrees(MSc) in surgery some universities offer? How can you study surgery with only a BSc? Seems like a pretty cool backup plan if admission doesn't work out. Jochi1543
These are actually post-MD or post-dent programs. Think of it as a less involved version of MD/PhD.
Jochi1543
Check out Manitoba's MSc in surgery, for example: http://umanitoba.ca/graduate_studies/programs/masters/surgery/index.htm The program is designed to grant surgical residents a year free of clinical duties to work on a research project of their own design under the mentorship of a senior investigator. The purpose of the program is to encourage the development of surgical clinician scientists, who will become the academic leaders of surgery in the future. Many recent MSc recipients have gone on to careers in academic surgery or are still undertaking fellowship training with plans to assume an academic career in surgery Admission Requirements This program is open to holders of an M.D. degree who are currently enrolled in a residency program at the University of Manitoba. Candidates incorporate the program as part of their residency training, qualifying for both. http://umanitoba.ca/graduate_studies/programs/masters/surgery/admissions.htm
