Application incomplete - transcript deadline 6/15/08

Recommended Posts

My beartracks said 'incomplete' until well into this summer AFTER they had already rejected me. Beartracks is updated by the RO and they aren't the quickest cats of the litter.... In fact, they're not fast at all. They're just plain slow. So don't expect much to happen on beartracks either in the application part, the gpa part, the transcript part, or any other part!

Bitter? Let's just say I intimately know the inner workings of that office....

Haha, I see...the app itself left me pretty bitter. U of A is probably my top choice based on my current thoughts - without having seen the 2 schools - (I'd love to stay in AB, and I like Edmonton more than Calgary), but the application has left me miserable. Everything is so difficult to navigate, and the app is structured in such a weird way!

Did you get in anywhere last spring, muchdutch? If not, what are you up to now, and are you re-applying this fall?

No, I only applied to U of C and U of A and didn't get accepted to either. I'm pretty sure that my less than stellar mcat is to blame, so I'm not really that surprised.

I decided not to apply this year - I am getting out of the med-school-app rat race for a year or two, then I'm going to re-write my mcat and reapply.

I am just finishing my degree this year - next semester I have a practicum and only 1 course (yea!). Because I started out in general science then switched to kinesiology, not all of my credits transferred. Also, my faculty is small so some courses are only offered one term per year, so it took me four more years - this is my sixth year of school! Needless to say, I am more than ready to take a bit of a breather from studying before I take the mcat again. I am thinking I will write it at the end of next year and apply the year after that - I'm in no hurry and know that it will happen sooner or later.

I am looking forward to my first REAL vacation (read: more than four days) in six years!!!! I am thinking I will be going to Trinidad and Tobago.......

It may seem that way in med (and I'm sure of this as I see you guys in your lounge playing games after my physl class - fun!), but it's not like that at all as an undergrad. Some faculties are better than others of course (usually the smaller population, the more support and peer-interaction available), but on the whole, the undergrad experience isn't all that much of a 'lifestyle' at all - lots of 'weeding out' of the 'weakest link' along the way....

When I spoke to everyone in med (admins, former students, current students), they say that it's a great atmosphere with a ton of support. Looks like fun to me........

I think it's the combination of large school + premed curriculum. I went to a small school (my graduating class was about 450 people), where everyone (even people who grew up down the block) was required to live on campus for the first 2 years. The residency requirement and small class sizes definitely created a certain "bubble" that I personally enjoyed living in. Moreover, I majored in foreign language, and my major classes were particularly small....my 4th year specialty class only had like 7 people in it!
