webshy
Has anyone ordered textbooks from the US? If so, what was the duty you paid? I have been unable to locate this information online. Thanks! Elaine
Jochi1543
You shouldn't pay duty if it's from Half.com or Amazon. I'm not sure if you would if it's the actual Amazon.com sale (not from a private seller listed on Amazon) - I've only ever bought books from private sellers on there. ChicoMaki
EBAY is amazing if you can find your book. A lot of times, it'll be the international edition if it ships from outside NA, but its the exact same, only paper back. For example, I paid $60 (including shipping) for a new international edition biochemistry book (Voet, Voet) which my bookstore sell new for 119 + tax Even buying used books is cheaper, e.g The Cell (Alberts et al, 4th ed) two years ago, I got used from Florida for $70 when the new book cost $139 and a used one at my bookstore cost $
Darla
I didn't have to pay duty last month. It was lovely ** from Amazon.com
never too late
I can second that! I bought an international version for more than 1/2 off of what the school bookstore was paying for it. Mine even had colour pics (which apparently they don't all do). Plus it was soft cover so 1/2 the weight as well. There was no duty, it came quickly (from NY) & the s&h was around $10 or $12. I didn't end up taking the class and sold it for what I had paid for it. At the end of the semester, you could still sell it for what you paid for it & the other person would still be saving money off of a used book price!
