two W's on transcript.

Recommended Posts

Hi yall.

Since UBC is my best shot, I'm kind of overthinking a lot of it.

Last fall I got quite ill in the middle of the semester, and had to drop 2 classes (upon recommendation by the dean and my premed adviser). I ended up with really good grades in the 3 classes I kept, but It was late enough in the semester that my school put 2 W's on my transcript.

That semester sticks out as the only semester I didn't take a full course load etc. Since UBC does not have a specific place to put an explanation of particular problems or what not, I did not write it down explicitly. My personal statement did not have any place for the subject of my transcript. It did not fit in the thesis :P.

Just wondering what you guys think. I have exceptional grades in full semesters for the last 3 years, so the two w's are an obvious oddity. Do you think this will affect my pre-interview chances?

I had a W on my transcript - I took 3 courses that semester - and I think for most of my semesters I took only 4 courses - except year 5 and 6 of my undergrads - no problems - as long as you ca show them you can get good grades with a full course load - and I didn't explain it anywhere in my essay because it would have ruined it's flow - no one likes to hear excuses in an essay.

Raven,

For the AQ score, the calculation is pure arithmatic. Full courseload, half courseload, or even 1 course only..... doesn't make a difference.

However, whether you took a full course load, or worked and took a half course load, or played video games and took 1 course, will be made apparent in your NAQ via your essay and extra-acts.

It's also worth pointing out... a UBC advisor on the phone told me that taking extra upper level electives is viewed as more favorable than taking lower level electives.

So very true. Don't make excuses, just explain your activities and strengths and hope that they justify a reduced courseload.
