Number of OOP applicants to Dalhousie?

Recommended Posts

:D Hello,

I cannot pin an exact number on the OOP files, but close to 700 applications in total were received this year. The number of files in the Admissions/Student Affairs office is quite staggering visually! :)

News update about interviews is that they will most likely be emailed out to successful competitive applicants on Friday, Dec. 21.

Good luck!

Wow, that's really surprising to hear 'leaked' statistics that applications to many Canadian schools actually decreased this year.

Hello! :D

In the past, Dal Med has used a formula-based method of scoring applicants. If memory serves me, it was out of 100 and so many points were allocated to different sections such as MCAT scores, interview, essays, discretionary marks (for scholarships or awards, etc.), transcript marks, etc. This form is actually fairly holistic and if you didn't do as well on your MCAT, for example, but really shone on your academics or elsewhere, you wouldn't necessarily be less "competitive" than other individuals.

Of course, I'm not sure how this process is changing this year. It may not be formula-based although I doubt it considering it's been used a fairly long time (to my best knowledge). The change to the MMI instead of the individual interview may also change the way interviews were previously scored.

I hope this information helps. It is several years old and may not be necessarily accurate for this admissions cycle, but it does show that all facets of the candidate's application are looked at carefully and weighed with respect to the others. :)

So, this extremely long answer to your original question is that stats are important, but they are not everything. Dal Med does look at the whole package.

Have a great holiday break.

Is this accurate? I have had some issue with my MCAT scroes (I made a mistake on my application which i clarified in an email). I've been emailing dal and even phoned and anita said 'if you've emailed me that they'll get to it' but I'm worried my application won't be complete and assessed by this date ... :(

I didn't even receive an email saying when interview notices would be sent out...I'm a maritimer by the way

I would check with the office to make sure they have the correct e-mail address and have your file in the maritimer pile.

When I applied (back when all eligible maritimers were given an interview), I didn't get an invite even though I had met all the requirements. I contacted the office and by the end of the day I received an email from them with the interview information.

I also know of someone in the last cycle whose application was put in the out of province pile even though the applicant was a maritimer. This person received a rejection letter which had the applicant listed as OOP. Once this person contacted the admissions office about the mix up, they were granted an interview.

These things do happen so your best bet is to call and make sure.

Did everyone get an email... or just the out of province?

According to the e-mail, all applicants should have received it.

ALL applicants to Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine will receive this

email. We are currently testing out the email addresses to ensure they are

all working.[/Quote]
