Verifier question

Hello,

One of my verifiers was contacted by UBC a few days ago. I'm wondering what everyone's opinion on the contacting of verifiers is.

I'm not sure if it is in fact random, I think its a positive sign. With such limited human resources, would the admissions committee really take the time to contact an applicant's verifier if they had no interest in that applicant (assuming the applicant didn't have anything suspicious on the application that they were checking up on)?

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks! :)

  • 2 weeks later...

I just heard from a second verifier saying that UBC contacted them to verify dates, etc.

I'm wondering the likelihood that this is random. I don't think its very likely considering that I'm 1 out of many applicants, they've already checked me twice, and they haven't even sent out interview invites yet! Is this normal, to check verifiers this much before interviews?

Any thoughts?

Very funny! :P

No, all of my information is legit and there isn't anything that could raise an eyebrow (eg no jumping into burning barns trying to save a family of 4 and then performing CPR). I'm just really surprised that they're taking the time to verify before interviews, and that they'd verify two. I thought that their "random verification" was random to a targeted group, not the entire pool.

It's either a random quality control check on the ENTIRE pool (in which case it's not good news or bad news)...

Or it's a random quality control check on the pool which they deem interviewable/will be interviewed (in which case I would assume that's good news).

Either way, speculating about it will only drive you crazy.

I have no idea how the system works at UBC, but I would expect it to be good news. By now they must have a good idea of who they will invite for an interview. Like you said, I don't much see the point in calling if they're not interested. Let's not jump to conclusions too fast, but I think you have reasons to be optimistic.:) good luck!
