Courses taken on part-time bases NOT included in GPA calculation?

Recommended Posts

I heard from my friend who got into UofT medical school last year that UofT won't count courses taken on part-time bases in GPA calculation. I have taken 2.5 credit course load on first year and friggin bombed them :( Is this a good news?

My stat:

First year: 2.4 :(

Second year: 3.72

Third year: 3.91

Fourth year: 3.88

MCAT: VR: 10, BS: 11, PS: 10, WS: Q (Wrote the MCAT FOUR times!)

Please please please please may my friend's word be right.....

I'm sorry to say that I think all of your courses count. What they won't do is factor out your lowest grades because you aren't eligible for their weighting formula if you did any of your degree on a part-time basis.

Might be a good idea in your case to do a fifth year - your more recent grades are stellar so you might as well try to bring up your total average. Anyway, don't panic, it's clear that you're a smarty-pants from your more recent grades. They should notice the upward trend. :)

hmm....but on the website, its says

"Summer courses are considered as supplemental work and are not included in the applicant's GPA calculation. However, courses taken during the summer or on a part-time basis are counted, if successfully completed, in the total number of credits and for prerequisites."

"Marks from any courses completed on a part-time basis are not included in the calculation of the GPA, but are accepted as credit towards the degree requirements. Prerequisite courses may be taken in the summer."
