Egorema@hotmail.com
I am just wondering how mcmaster calculates your GPA like for example do they look at best 2 years? Thanks
The Law
No, they look at every course ever taken in undergrad (including summer courses, and part time courses, or years you took > full course load).
Egorema@hotmail.com
No, they look at every course ever taken in undergrad (including summer courses, and part time courses, or years you took > full course load). so I guess thats the reason mcmaster is pretty hard to get in? b/c I saw other schools have weighted GPA calculations which greatly help to increase one's GPA
theyab
So they don't use any kind of OMSAS weighting either?
The Law
There is absolutely no weighting at McMaster. Egorema - The reason it is so difficult to gain admission to McMaster is because they have no pre-requisite, no MCAT requirement, and the minimum GPA you need to apply is 3.00. This means they receive ~ 5000 apps per year... combined with the fact there is absolutely no weighting in their GPA formula...
inzi
actually, im pretty sure mac has a weighting system. Im not 100% sure but ive heard 40/60, 50/50 or 60/40 split gpa/abs. one of the main reasons why mac is so hard to get into is because the way they grade the essays is very subjective. Most of the marks are between 4-6 so the marks for everyone are very similar Also, i believe the average gpa for the 2010 class was 3.9 so the gpa is definately considered
redribbon
The class of 2010 had an average GPA of 3.83. http://65.39.131.180/ContentPage.aspx?name=MD_Prog_-_Admissions_-_Selection_Process Moreover, there is no weighting system for the GPA, which I'm assuming what Law is referring to, as oppose to interview selection. inzi
Sorry, I misunderstood the previous post..haha. You are right in that there is no weighted gpa at mac. Whatever omsas calculated and sent you is the gpa they use. kgmed23
In addition, I was told by the adcom that they don't accept any letters with regard to extenuating circumstances that could have influenced your overall GPA.
