paheli
I'm currently in science, and I'm worried I won't get into med school. I'm considering switching to accounting so I have better chances of getting a good job after graduating, in case I don't get into med school. Has anyone here taken accounting? How hard is it? Many of my friends in commerce complain about how hard it is, but is it reall that hard? Is it tougher than organic chemistry?
Jochi1543
So let me get this right... You're thinking of switching into a field you have absolutely no idea about... And you're asking a bunch of pre-meds on a pre-med forum (who have unlikely taken any accounting) how they find it compares to orgo... Maybe you'll have better success asking your commerce friends. Luckily, there's Jochi, who's taken EVERYTHING.... I think the only classes I never took were computer science, anthropology, and drama. It really depends on your professors and your natural ability. A class can be made very hard or very easy. I took Financial Accounting and got a B - I didn't feel like it was that hard, but I didn't really like the class and didn't put in as much effort as I could have. In orgo, on the other hand, I put in a LOT of effort and got A+ in both semesters. Would I have gotten an A in accounting had I tried more? Maybe, I don't know. It's impossible to make generalizations about whether one major (or course) is easier than the other without taking some courses first. I suggest you take an accounting course - maybe try something that could be beneficial for you in the future, such as "small business owner accounting" or whatever - and see how it goes for you instead of asking other people, who may not have the same natural abilities as you do. Maybe you'll find orgo easy, but would struggle in accounting, no one can tell you for sure.
The Law
I think the question should be, are you merely switching out of "science" because you are intimidated by it? If you are in first year and find yourself struggling, perhaps you should evaluate how you are studying and work to improve that. If still, you feel that you are not going to be able to accomplish the grades you need, then I'd switch - but only if you have a passion for the thing you are going to be switching into. I wouldn't go into a program simply on the hope that the program is easy... Medicine isn't going to be easy, and if you don't think you can succeed in a difficult undergraduate curriuculum, what makes you think you'll succeed in medicine? Sorry don't want to sound like I"m attacking you, but you seem like you're completely freaking out at the "propsect" of taking a course - and you still haven't gotten a taste of it yet!
