Guest viscous
Those who are at UofT are aware of such courses. They are research based courses and are usually equivalent to 1 credit. The problem is though that there are no class averages for such courses. Your supervisor gives you marks based on objectivity of the quality of your work, your research, critical thinking in projects, presentations, assignments etc. Are such courses which have no class averages acceptable by med schools in a full course load thing i.e. 5 credits where 1 credit from the remaining 4 is this ROP! TidusAlexandros
Those who are at UofT are aware of such courses. They are research based courses and are usually equivalent to 1 credit. The problem is though that there are no class averages for such courses. I did the ROP program in my second year. There is a class average, which is the mean grade of everyone who did an ROP that year. Your supervisor gives you marks based on objectivity of the quality of your work, your research, critical thinking in projects, presentations, assignments etc. I wouldn't worry about this too much if you have a great relationship with your supervisor. Usually, the marks for this course are inflated anyways - think the class average for my year was an A-. Are such courses which have no class averages acceptable by med schools in a full course load thing i.e. 5 credits where 1 credit from the remaining 4 is this ROP! I remember being assigned a letter grade at the end, which the medical schools include as part of your GPA via a simple conversion (e.g. A+ = 4.0). If I remember correctly from my conversation with Leslie Taylor, this course was counted towards a full course load. Anyways, I would definitely recommend this opportunity for any undergrad who is potentially interested in research. It gets your "foot in the door" so to speak and if you can find the right supervisor, you can even run your own project (as a second year student!) that could lead to a first-author publication! Personally, I had such a great experience I stayed with the same prof for the rest of my undergrad and used her as one of my med school references. Heat
Can you use this course as an EC. Only a select few get into the course so not everyone has the same opportunity as you. How else would it benefit your med school application?
